This area covers the residential and commercial districts of Geylang, Katong, Mountbatten Road and East Coast Road.
The two famous main roads here are Geylang Road and Sims Avenue. Both appear in the upper half of the map. Geylang Road is a one-way road running in the east-to-west (left-to-right) direction, while the parallel Sims Avenue runs one-way west-to-east.
Geylang is famous its food and night life serving both the gastronomic and other bodily desires of Singaporeans and tourists alike - it is quite possibly the biggest red-light district of Singapore. Not surprisingly, many budget, 3-star and hourly-rate hotels and motels dot this part of Singapore.
The gastronomic and culinary satiation comes from the proliferation of (mostly Chinese) eateries, coffeeshops and restaurants in this district. Many open late into the night or till the early morning hours. Not quite a few are found to open 24 hours.
Further west from Geylang, is Changi Road which runs through the Malay heritage area of Geylang Serai.
Down south, in the lower half of the map, is the largely private residential areas of Mountbatten, Tanjong Katong Road, Joo Chiat, East Coast Road. Similar housing is found further east at Still Road. and Telok Kurau Estate near the right edge of the map.
Even further south is the HDB town and housing estate of Marine Parade, which is a few minutes' walk to the major public recreational zone of East Coast Park.
