This area shows a mixed residential / commercial area with Balestier Road to the top/left of the Central Expressway (CTE) and Towner/McNair estate on the bottom/right.

The Balestier Road area comprises mainly low-rise shophouses and some HDB public housing apartments along Whampoa Drive. Many eateries/coffeeshops and restaurants occupy the first-floor of the shophouses. Shaw Plaza, a mid-sized shopping mall that houses a cinema complex (cineplex) Shaw Balestier, is found at the top-left corner of the map. The Towner/McNair area is a mostly HDB public housing estate. The ITE College West Balestier Campus is located in this area at 114 Balestier Road, Singapore 329679. In the top-right corner is Bendemeer Secondary School (明智中学) at address: 1 St. Wilfred Road, Singapore 327919.
